What is Casel?
CASEL stands for the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning. It is a nonprofit organization that helps make evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL) an essential part of education from preschool through high school. casel.org →
CASEL is widely recognized as the leading authority on SEL. It conducts research, develops frameworks, and offers guidance to schools, districts, states, educators, and families to support children's academic success, emotional well-being, and positive relationships.
What Does "CASEL Aligned SEL Integration" Mean?
CASEL-aligned SEL integration means that teaching and learning practices are intentionally designed to reflect CASEL’s evidence-based SEL framework, often called the CASEL 5.
This framework identifies five core social and emotional competencies that students develop through academic and creative learning experiences: [link.springer.com]
When learning is CASEL-aligned, these competencies are integrated across reading, writing, math, science, social studies, music, art, and movement rather than taught in isolation.
